Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs
The story takes place and a town called Chewandswallow. Living in Chewandswallow is a delicious time. Instead of having different kind of weather, Chewandswallow has breakfast, lunch, and dinner come from the sky. It was all wonderful until the big storms come and tear down the town. In the story, Grandpa of the two children from the beginning tells this story of Chewandswallow to them. This story has a lot of descriptive words of all of the different foods. You are able to visualize the descriptions without the pictures.The illustrations of this book are done by Judi's husband, Ron Barrett. The illustrations go perfectly with the story and what the story is trying to portray. Which Witch is Which? This book is a hide-and-seek book that uses rhyming words to find what is in the pictures. Each sentence on the page has something to do with the illustrations. The illustrations for this book are done by Sharleen Collicott, who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada where she works full-time illustrating children's books. Old MacDonald Had an Apartment House Old MacDonald and his wife moved into an apartment house. They start out with one tomato plant and then it turns into a whole greenhouse in the apartment building. Each resident one my one moves out and Old MacDonald moves a plant in. Judi has a special place in her heart for cows and chickens, but not in her apartment. The writing style is very narrative and has a lot of dialogue. You can picture the story through the text and tell what exactly is going on. The illustrations in this story start out black and white and once all of the vegetables and animals come in, they become colorful. Ron Barrett, Judi's husband illustrated this book as well as many others written by Judi. Animals should definitely not wear clothing This book describes the reasons why animals should not be wearing clothing. There are many animals that should not be wearing clothing such as a porcupine and a snake. Judi Barrett wrote this book to show how ridiculous animals will look with clothing on except for the occasional dog or cat when it is cold out. The writing style in this book is repetitive. Each page of the story has "because" at the beginning to answer the question why "animals should definitely not wear clothing." The illustrations in this book are done by Judi's husband Ron Barrett. Pickles to Pittsburgh This book is the sequel to Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs. The two children wait for their grandpa to come home from vacation. They receive a postcard about how unsual his trip has been and they drift off to sleep imagining giant pickles. Judi Barrett has never been to Pittsburgh but she loves to eat dill pickles every once in a while. Judi's writing style in this book is very narrative. She is telling a story in detail and everything can be pictured without the pictures being there. The illustrations in this book are done by Ron Barrret, who is Judi Barrett's husband. His children's book illustrations have been honored by the Society of Illustrators and have been in an exibit at The Louvre in Paris, France. |
